In a tragic turn of events, 33-year-old U.S. Postal Service employee Jonte Davis lost his life in what authorities are describing as a “targeted” shooting incident. The United States Postal Inspection Service has announced a substantial reward of up to $250,000 for any information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for Davis’s homicide. This reward, announced via a press release by the postal service on Sunday, underscores the severity of the situation and the urgency in bringing those responsible to justice.

The fatal shooting occurred on March 2, 2024, at approximately 1:44 p.m. in the 600 Block of Olive Avenue NE, as reported by the Warren Police Department. Davis was found inside his postal van with a gunshot wound, allegedly inflicted by a suspect in another vehicle. Despite efforts by officers and EMTs to save him, Davis succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Trumbull Regional Medical Center.

Following the shooting, law enforcement swiftly located the suspect vehicle parked in a driveway at 429 Maryland Ave NE. A search warrant was obtained for both the residence and the vehicle, with the Mahoning Valley Crisis Response Team providing assistance. Evidence, including the suspect vehicle, was recovered, and several individuals were brought in for questioning. However, as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the targeted assault.

The investigation into Davis’s tragic death is ongoing, with the U.S. Postal Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) collaborating closely on the case. Authorities suspect that the assailant who fatally shot Davis was acquainted with the victim, leading them to classify the incident as a “targeted attack.” Postal investigators have issued a warning that the suspect(s) should be considered “armed and dangerous,” urging the public not to attempt to apprehend them independently.

In their efforts to gather information crucial to the investigation, authorities are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with any information about this case is urged to contact Detective John Greaver at 330-841-2723 or via email at jgreaver@warren.org. The offer of a substantial reward underscores the seriousness of this incident and the determination of law enforcement to bring closure to Davis’s family and justice to those responsible for his senseless death.
