Instead of flowers, the family would like contributions to be made to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation in memory of Dr. Smaha. The foundation can be reached at P.O. Box 871847, Kansas City, MO 64187-1847. Temple University’s School of Podiatric Medicine and the University of Georgia both bestowed honors upon Dr. Smaha upon his graduation.
He became the first podiatrist to work at the Medical Center of Central Georgia when he opened for business in 1968. Dr. Smaha was an active part of the medical community throughout his career. He was president of the Georgia Podiatric Medical Association and served on the Board of Georgia State Podiatric Medical Examiners.

Only Dr. Smaha’s devotion to his family could rival his devotion to his career. The Smaha family of Macon includes his children Drs. Paul G. Smaha, III (Carol), Kim A., and Jason (Michelle), as well as his grandchildren Katlyn, Paul IV, Jake, Josh, Jason, Heather, and Victoria Smaha, and Lesley and David Smith, who are the children of Michelle Smaha. His brother Jiggy Smaha and sisters Theresa Brimer, Cecelia Smaha, and Trudy Perez-Poveda (Jorge) are also left to mourn his passing.
