The death of Gabe Reyes – The passing of Gabriel Reyes, commonly known as Gabe, who was a beloved son and brother, is a loss to the family. He passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, at the age of 22. He had been involved in a terrible vehicle accident. It was revealed that he had passed away via a statement on Facebook that stated, “It is with profound sadness that we extend our heartfelt condolences on the untimely passing of Gabe Reyes.” His commitment and passion throughout his time as an apprentice made an indelible mark on each and every one of us. The 26th of January, 2002 saw Dustin Joseph and Faith Renee Light Reyes welcoming their son, Gabe Reyes, into the world in Ottumwa.

The Education and Profession of Gabe Reyes
In the year 2020, Gabe will graduate from Cardinal High School, which he attended when he was growing up in Ottumwa. During his time in high school, Gabe was an enthusiastic participant in a number of sports, including baseball, basketball, football, and track and field. On the other hand, he was most successful in football and track, and he even competed in the state track meet. His abilities were especially impressive in these two sports. While Gabe was still in high school, he also acquired job experience at Binns & Stevens Explosives in Oskaloosa. There, he participated in explosive operations, demonstrating his abilities in an area that is both distinctive and specialized. After receiving his diploma, Gabe made a huge commitment to serve his nation by enlisting in the United States Army after his graduation. He was stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, for a period of two years, during which time he provided an invaluable contribution to the country.

Participation in the Community and Individual Blessings
Gabe made the transition from military life to civilian life and sought a job in the workforce after completing his stint in the military. For the first time, he demonstrated his versatility and hard ethic by beginning his career at Douds Stone as an equipment operator. At the moment, he was working at Winger Mechanical in Ottumwa, which allowed him to further his professional career within the mechanical business. Gabe maintained his connections to his community and religion in spite of the constraints imposed by his professional obligations. St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ottumwa was the location of his baptism and confirmation, which served as a demonstration of his dedication to his personal beliefs and the development of his spirituality. In addition, Gabe demonstrated his commitment in professional networks and organizations by becoming an active member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #33, which serves as an example of his involvement.

Gabe’s presence was nothing short of a guiding light inside the confines of the Reyes home, providing a source of illumination. Because of his tremendous zest for life, he gave his parents a great deal of pleasure and delight while he was a student. In his role as a brother, he was a reliable source of love and support, always there to provide a listening ear or a reassuring hug whenever it was needed. This man’s boundless capacity for love was the only thing that could compare to his unflinching dedication to his family. The captivating charm that Gabe had pulled others to him like moths to a flame, even beyond the bounds of his family. Because of his quick wit and laid-back personality, he was able to cultivate profound and enduring connections that lasted for a whole lifetime. No matter whether it was his students, his colleagues, or his neighbors, Gabe had a knack of making everyone feel like they were being respected and welcomed.

Bringing Happiness to Others: Gabe’s Influence on the Community
Gabe not only made a positive difference in the lives of those who were closest to him, but he also had a huge influence on the community as a whole. He was always eager to go the extra mile to make a good influence in the world around him, whether it was via volunteering at local charities, organizing community events, or just offering a helping hand to those who were in need. He was always passionate about making a difference. The kindness and compassion that he displayed served as a source of motivation for everyone who had the honor of knowing him.

Death Notice for Gabe Reyes
He is survived by his parents, Dustin and Faith Reyes, who reside in Batavia; two sisters, Whitney Engle (Dalton Burnstedt) of Floris and Lexi Engle (Kyle Woodard) of Ottumwa; his two nephews, Oliver and Arthur Burnstedt, affectionately referred to him as “Funkle Gabe;” his grandparents, Sherry (Steve) Jipp of Richland and Debra Wharton of Eldon; his aunts and uncles, Lisa Hayes, Jack Hayes III, Dana Evans, Ronnie Light (Brandie), Kristen Light (Jason Haynes), and Christian Jipp; and he is also survived by a large number of cousins, great-aunts, great-uncles, and extended family members. His grandfathers, Joseph Reyes and Roger Light, as well as his step-grandfather, Jedd Wharton, passed away before him.

At the Reece Funeral Home, visitation will be held from ten in the morning until six in the evening on Sunday, March 10th. The family will be there to meet and greet visitors from one to three in the afternoon on that same day. On the 11th of March, funeral services will be held at Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon at ten o’clock in the morning. Pastor Mark Clark will preside over the ceremony. Floris Cemetery will be the location of the burial followed by military honors.
