Steve Lawrence Obituary News: Steve Lawrence, an actor, comedian, and crooner from the 1950s and 1960s who formed the pair Steve and Eydie with his wife Eydie Gormé, passed away at the age of 88.

A family representative for Lawrence told Variety that the actor passed away at his Los Angeles home on Thursday due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Lawrence was forced to stop touring after receiving the diagnosis in 2019.

The 18-year-old vocalist Lawrence, who was born in New York City, began his career in show business when he was hired by Steve Allen’s late-night show in 1953.

A year later, the show changed its name to The Tonight Show, and Allen became its first host. Lawrence married fellow singer and cast member Eydie Gormé in 1957 after they first connected on The Tonight Show.

Along with their TV appearances, the couple started a music career. After Allen departed the Tonight Show, they briefly started their own show, The Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé Show.

Over the late 1950s and early 1960s, Steve and Eydie released a number of singles. A pair of Grammys for Best Performance by a Vocal Duo or Group were also won by Steve and Eydie.

In addition to their TV roles, the duo embarked on a musical career. They briefly launched The Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé Show after Allen left the Tonight Show.

A handful of singles were issued by Steve and Eydie in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Steve and Eydie also took home two Grammys for Best Performance by a Vocal Duo or Group.
