Effingham Car Accident: Victim of Effingham County crash in Cylo Identified

The crash in Clyo that claimed one life is being looked into by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

A woman turned left in front of another car at the intersection of Berryville Road and Stillwell-Clyo Road about three o’clock on Thursday afternoon.

After being brought to the hospital, she passed away from her wounds.

Although they were also taken to the hospital, the two occupants of the other vehicle are anticipated to make a full recovery.

Deputies are holding off on identifying the victim until they have notified the victim’s next of kin while the investigation is still ongoing.

Location Facts

Clyo is an unincorporated community in Effingham County, Georgia, United States. The community is located along Georgia State Route 119, 8.1 miles (13.0 km) north-northeast of Springfield. Clyo has a post office with ZIP code 31303.

Effingham County is located in southeastern Georgia along the Georgia/South Carolina border. With a 2013
population estimated at 54,456 (U.S. Census Bureau), Effingham County is bordered by Screven County to the
north, Bulloch County to the west, Bryan and Chatham Counties to the south, and Jasper County, South Carolina,
to the east.

A post office called Clyo has been in operation since 1897. The community was named after Clio, the muse of history in Greek mythology.

The major highways and transportation routes within the County consist of GA Hwy 21, which runs northwest to
southeast along the spine of the County through the cities of Springfield and Rincon.

GA Hwy 17 also runs
northwest to southeast (i.e., parallel to GA Hwy 21) through the City of Guyton in the western side of the County.
The major east-west corridor is GA Hwy 119, which runs through Clyo, Springfield and Guyton.

The County alsohas access to a major interstate (I-16) and federal highway (US Hwy 80), which both run northwest to southeast through the southernmost tip of the County.
