Dr. Irene Say, M.D. unexpectedly passed away. The confirmation of her death came on Thursday, March 7, 2024. When word spread of Irene’s untimely death, many people’s hearts were broken. Those who were fortunate enough to have known her over her life will always remember her and be saddened by her absence.
Neurosurgeon Irene Say treated patients with degenerative spine problems, cancer, and trauma-related spine issues, among other spine-related ailments.
She specialized in difficult and minimally invasive spine surgery, with a focus on minimally invasive techniques that retain function, neuronavigation (computer-assisted neurosurgery), and robotic surgery (computer-assisted technologies that improve control and precision).
Say’s work focused on standards and best practices for enhancing neurosurgical care, as well as the creation of protocols for minimally invasive neurosurgery. Her award of the Carl Akins Risk Management Grant enabled her to conduct research on spinal cord crises.
