Jacob Crawshaw Obituary News: 19-year-old Jacob, from St Neots Dies After crash on A14

A man who killed his coworker in an accident on the A14 has been imprisoned. When Christopher Hicks failed to brake in time for a slower-moving vehicle, he crashed his work van into it, trapping Jacob Crawshaw in the passenger seat.

According to Northampton Chronicle, a sister publication of National World, he had been exceeding the speed limit that applied to his vehicle, and Jacob had messaged a friend about it because of the way he drove. At at 4.50 am on October 17, 2021, a collision with the van resulted in severe damage to the passenger side, instantaneously killing 19-year-old Jacob from St Neots.

Hicks, of Eynesbury’s Andrew Road, initially admitted to the lesser allegation of driving recklessly, but he later contested the charge of driving dangerously and caused death. At Northampton Crown Court last week, the 44-year-old received a 30-week jail sentence and a 30-year and 15-week driving suspension.

Jacob’s father James gave a powerful victim personal statement during the sentence hearing, describing the terrible effect his “amazing” son’s death had on his friends and family.

“Police officers came to tell us that Jacob had died at the scene of a road traffic collision on that Sunday morning,” the speaker stated. As my entire life collapsed in front of me, I went to my knees in shock and excruciating pain.

Nothing could have prepared us for the heartache, suffering, bereavement, shock, rage, misery, and trauma we experienced when our lives were abruptly turned upside down. Our wonderful Jakey’s death has shattered our ideal family of five.

Birthdays of family members and friends, Christmas, New Year’s, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, and anniversaries all cruelly mock us. The realization of his absence pierces deeply, akin to a profound wound.
