Two Killed in Poukawa Double-fatal crash in South of Hastings
This afternoon, a car accident south of Hastings claimed the lives of two persons.
About 2:30 pm, emergency personnel were alerted to a two-vehicle collision on State Highway 2 in Poukawa, close to the Pekapeka Wetlands.
Two tragic deaths occurred at the scene, according to a police official.
A third individual was hurt severely and sent to the hospital.
Between Stock Road and Te Aute Trust Road, SH2 Poukawa is still closed. There is a detour in place. Kindly give yourself more time to get there.
According to a spokesperson for St John ambulance, two patients were sent to Hawke’s Bay Hospital. One sustained minor injuries, and the other was in a critical condition.
“We dispatched an operations manager, a rapid response vehicle, and two ambulances.”
The section of SH2 that ran from Te Aute Trust Rd. south of Pakipaki was closed. There were SH50 diversion signs in place.
According to a police statement, “the Serious Crash Unit is on the scene, and investigations into the crash’s circumstances are ongoing.”
Drivers are advised to “please use an alternative route or delay your journey,” according to NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.
