5 killed after plane crash at Ingalls Field Airport in Hot Springs
A twin-engine IAI Astra 1125 aircraft crashed close to Ingalls Field Airport in Hot Springs, Virginia, at approximately 3 p.m. local time on Sunday, March 10.
The aircraft was transporting five individuals, all of whom tragically lost their lives in the incident.
One of the passengers aboard the aircraft was reported to be a child.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will conduct an investigation into the incident.
According to Jeff Ford, the chairman of the Airport Authority, the aircraft, a twin jet, was not affiliated with Bath County and had no prior landing schedule at the airport.
Ford stated that the Airport Authority suspects the plane was attempting an emergency landing around 3 p.m. when it crashed, sparking a nearby brush fire.
The fire was swiftly extinguished by Hot Springs Fire and Rescue, Falling Spring Fire Department, and Clifton Forge Fire and Rescue teams.
All north and south roads on Route 703 near Airport Road are closed until further notice.
The crash is under investigation by the Virginia State Police, Federal Aviation Administration, and the National Transportation Safety Board.
