Elston Wood Obituary, Death, A precious Life Gone Too Soon

Elston Wood Obituary, Death –  Elston B. Wood, who was 90 years old at the time of his death, passed away in Huron on March 10, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Joy Sue (Taylor) Wood, three daughters, Teresa Crownover (Steve), Susan Brown (Lytle), and Tina Woods (Mike), and eight grandchildren, including Jennifer Roaten (Jared), Lane Crownover (Susan), and Matthew Crownover.

The Good Samaritan Society in Algona was the location where Elton Wood, 91 years old, passed away on Saturday. At the Divine Mercy Parish ~ St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Whittemore, a funeral Mass is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at eleven o’clock in the morning.

Calvary Cemetery in Algona will be the location of the interment. The St. Michael’s Catholic Church Parish Center in Whittemore will be the location of the visitation that will take place on Wednesday from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM.

It was on a farm in Sherman Township, which is located in Kossuth County, Iowa, that Elton Eugene Wood was born on March 12, 1932. His parents were Walter and Lillie (Moore) Wood. Of the sixteen children, he was the fifteenth child. After completing the eighth grade in a country school, he continued his education at Lu Verne High School, from which he graduated in May of 1949.

It wasn’t until December 10, 1953 that Elton joined the United States Army; before to that, he remained on the farm and assisted his father. Fort Leonard Wood, located in Missouri, was where he completed his basic training.

During the period beginning in May of 1954 and ending in October of 1955, he served in Germany. He was released with honor from the military at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. His unit, Battery B, 5th Field Artillery Battalion, appointed him to the position of Company Clerk while he was stationed in Germany.

Following his return from defending his country, Elton started working at Robinson Produce in Algona, Iowa. Robinson Produce would later transform into Klein’s Farm Supply and then Wayne’s Feed Supply when he moved back to the United States. For the past 21 years, he has been employed at the same store location. Before beginning his career with Snap On Tools in Algona in January of 1978, Elton had previously held a position at Harley Haas for a certain period of time.
