Roberta McCarthy: who was she?
On November 16, 1940, Robert Palladino and Mary Ingram Palladino welcomed Roberta (Bert) into the world in Los Angeles, California. She moved to Bakersfield in 1946, a city full of potential and promise. Her scholastic adventure began when she enrolled at Longfellow Elementary School. She then attended Washington Junior High School and East Bakersfield High School. She met her high school boyfriend, Owen McCarthy, at East Bakersfield High School, thanks to a stroke of luck. Bert had a positive influence in her neighborhood and had an effect that went much beyond her personal ties. She was an integral part of the Kern County Anti-Graffiti Program, as she was an outspoken supporter of the removal of graffiti. Her commitment to this cause made her beloved hometown’s integrity and beauty more intact.

Her generosity in lending her time and money to many humanitarian organizations demonstrated her boundless altruism. She dedicated a large amount of her efforts to helping people and families who were facing cancer-related difficulties. Bert’s generosity had no limitations, whether it was lending a sympathetic ear, lending a helpful hand, or giving money.
