Concerning the city of Corvallis
In the United States, the city of Corvallis is situated in the central west of Oregon and houses the Benton County government. Within the Corvallis, Oregon Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Benton County, it is the most significant city. According to the 2020 US Census, there were 59,922 residents, ranking it as the tenth most populated city in the state of Oregon. Corvallis is home to both Oregon State University and the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

Corvallis, the most western city in the 48 contiguous states of the United States, is home to over 50,000 people. In October of 1845, Joseph C. Avery arrived in Oregon from the east. In June of 1846, Avery moved into a log cabin that had been thrown up quickly to hold what seemed to be a potentially profitable land claim. At the point where the Marys River empties into the Willamette River, this claim was situated. Avery erected his first home in 1846, which was the first dwelling to be built within the borders of the area that is now Corvallis. His property claim also included the southern part of the present-day city.

Other settlers quickly joined Avery along the banks of the Willamette River. In September 1846, William F. Dixon became one among these pioneers and acquired a 640-acre (260-hectare) claim just north of Avery. Avery abandoned his Oregon claim in the autumn of 1848 to give mining a shot. This was due to the fact that the creation of a township was momentarily put on hold when gold was discovered in California in 1848. His time there was short-lived, since in January 1849 Avery returned to Oregon with nothing more than a rudimentary stock of supplies in the hopes of opening a store.
