Edward “Ed” Harvey Obituary, Death – Edward “Ed” Harvey, a well-liked character in Perry, Florida, departed this world on March 9, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of devoted service, intellectual curiosity, and genuine familial love. He was a cherished presence in the community.

Ed Harvey was born on December 20, 1944 in Jacksonville, Florida to parents named E.C. Harvey Sr. and Annie Carter Harvey. Throughout his life, Ed has been devoted to his family, constantly seeking knowledge, and serving his community. His dedication to his family has never wavered.

The beginning of Ed’s dedication to public service may be traced back to his time spent in the United States Marine Corps reserve, where he served as a tank commander from 1967 until 1972. During his time in the military, he developed a strong sense of duty and discipline, which served as a foundation for his subsequent achievements in the fields of education and administration. Ed made the transition from the military to the field of education by working as an English teacher at Rickards High School in Tallahassee.

There, he fostered the development of young minds by teaching them about literature and language, something he was passionate about. On the other hand, Ed’s desire to serve stretched beyond the confines of the classroom, and he began a career in which he served in a variety of executive posts within county, local, and federal governments located throughout the state of Florida. Ed’s dedication to serve the public good remained unwavering, despite the fact that his professional responsibilities were somewhat varied.

However, it was in the corridors of high school classrooms that Ed discovered his true vocation. He returned to his passion for teaching before retiring from the profession. His commitment to passing on his knowledge and experience to the next generation struck a chord with his pupils, and he left an indelible impression on the lives of a great number of people in Taylor County thanks to his efforts. Beyond the realm of his professional endeavors, Ed was a man who possessed a wide range of interests and abilities.

His hunger for knowledge was insatiable, and he immersed himself in a wide variety of fields, including history, music, physics, and art, as well as philosophy and history. His activities, whether it was playing the saxophone, learning new languages, or tending to his garden, mirrored his voracious curiosity and enthusiasm for the variety of experiences that life has to offer. Despite the fact that Ed had a wide range of interests, the one that brought him the most happiness and satisfaction was his family. In addition to being a devoted husband to Nonnie Harvey for forty-five years, Ed was a rock of support and strength for his wife, children, and grandchildren at his side.

The presence of Ed, who was affectionately referred to as “Papa” by his family, was synonymous with the presence of wisdom, encouragement, and unbroken love. Ed is leaving behind beloved memories and a lasting impression on all those who had the opportunity of knowing him as he prepares to depart from this earthly planet. Although his physical presence may no longer be present, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were moved by the warmth, guidance, and kindness that he provided.

On Saturday, March 23, 2024, a Memorial Service with the title “Remembering Papa” will be conducted at Calvary Baptist Church in Perry, Florida. Dr. Ben Kimmell will preside over the ceremony. The family will begin receiving guests at ten o’clock in the morning, and then the Memorial Service will begin at eleven o’clock. Instead of sending flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. This is Ed’s way of honoring his dedication to helping those who are in need, even though he is no longer physically present.

The journey of Edward “Ed” Harvey may have come to an end on earth, but the legacy he left behind of love, passion, and dedication will continue to shine a light on the lives of future generations.
