Alton Stevens Obituary, Death – Plattsburgh, New York resident Alton M. Stevens, who was 72 years old, passed suddenly at home on March 13, 2024. Paul Smiths College and Au Sable Valley High School each awarded Alton a degree in their respective fields. Additionally, he worked as a mechanic at a number of different companies in addition to his position as a cook at a number of restaurants in the neighborhood. Mr. Ding-A-Ling was the name he became known by in his latter years, and he was famed for serving ice cream from his large yellow ice cream truck.
The privilege of serving his country in the United States Navy, where he was stationed in various locations such as Bermuda and the Philippines, was Alton’s greatest source of pride. Having served in the Vietnam War, he was a proud veteran. His parents, Albert and Martha (Dockum) Stevens, as well as his sister Brenda Stevens and his sister-in-law Marilyn Stevens, passed away before he was born.
His wife of 34 years, Jeanne (Bradley) Stevens, his daughters Felicia (Stevens) Doucharm and Danielle Stevens, his sister Mary (Stevens) Geer, his brother-in-law Joseph Geer, and his brother Arthur Stevens, as well as his grandchildren Samantha and Brandon Doucharm, are among those who are able to carry on his legacy.
On top of that, he leaves behind a large number of nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. Remembering Alton by making a contribution to the American Heart Association in place of sending flowers is a thoughtful gesture.

Ronnie Stevens, his brother, passed away before him. He was the son of Emmette “E.J.” and Florine Bryant Stevens, Jr., both of whom had passed away before or after his birth. Following his retirement from Engelhard Kaolin Corporation, he became a member of Salem Baptist Church and served as a deacon there.
