Geoff Bates Obituary, Death – Being informed of Geoff Bates’s demise has left us in utter disbelief and grief. In addition to being a bright example for our club, he was a true gentleman. We want to express our deepest condolences to all of his loving family members during this trying time. He will be greatly missed by a great number of people.

Geoffrey Coleman, who was 94 years old at the time of his passing, passed away peacefully at his home in Cobourg on Saturday, March 31, 2021. This individual was the beloved partner of Barbara Reading, as well as the former husband of Barbara Sutherland and Barbara Rae, all of whom passed away. Our sincere condolences go out to Glenn Linda Sutherland and Lynn Allan Maclean’s stepfather. Beloved grandfather of 10 great grandchildren, including Jason Candace Maclean and Brandon Genny Maclean of the Maclean family.

The Reading family, including Barb’s children Garry and Gail Blake Fisher, grandchildren Darrin, Deborah, and Diane, and a large number of great grandchildren, will miss Geoff. Geoff was one of the siblings of Renee George Rippengale and Gerry Coleman, both of whom passed away.
When Geoff joined the Canadian Armed Forces on April 9, 1944, he was assigned to both Egypt and Belgium throughout his time in the military. His retirement from the Armed Forces came on November 1, 1969, after he had worked his way up to the rank of Warrant Officer.

A Materials Manager at Borden Chemical Company in Cobourg, Geoff eventually retired at the age of 57 after working there for a number of years. In his nearly 95 years, Geoffy managed to squeeze a lot of enjoyment into his life.

It was possible to count on him to be the light of any party because he had a passion for golf, which he continued to enjoy until he was twenty-two years old. Due to the fact that Covid does not permit a celebration of life, it would be greatly appreciated by Geoff and his family if you would raise a glass commemorating his life.

I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Dana Dudley and the excellent team at Palisades Garden for going above and above to provide Geoff with the opportunity to fulfill his goal of remaining at home. Additionally, the family would like to convey their appreciation and thanks to Dr. Mule as well as the LHIN.
