Hyannis Shooting – An individual from Hyannis, Massachusetts, who is thirty years old and is suspected of holding his mother at knifepoint on Wednesday and keeping Barnstable police at bay for approximately seven hours, entered not guilty pleas in court. After a dangerousness hearing that took place on Thursday, the same day, at Barnstable District Court, Justin Moreira was left in custody without the possibility of bail.
From the outside of the courthouse, his attorney Nat Carney addressed the reporters and stated that this is a very serious case. My first order of business is going to be to have a conversation with my customer. It is what he tells me that will serve as my guidance. The allegations against Moreira include kidnapping, nine counts of firearm-armed assault to murder, intimidation of a witness, three counts of carrying without a license, and nine counts of assault with a dangerous weapon (firearm). Moreira was arraigned on these charges.
In addition, he is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (knife), use of a firearm in a felony, firearm-armed assault with the intent to murder, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and possession of ammunition without a FID card.
According to the police, officers from the Barnstable Police Department were dispatched to 24 St. Francis Circle at approximately 7:41 a.m. on Wednesday. They were summoned there after receiving an allegation that Moreira was holding his mother at knifepoint.
The caller informed the dispatcher that he, his mother, and another female had locked themselves in a bedroom located in the basement. According to the police, Moreira, who was most likely armed, was located somewhere inside the property.
That morning, Moreira’s mother informed a police lieutenant that her son was set to appear in court at Barnstable Superior Court. The court date was planned to take place. The appointment to the court was connected to an indictment that was brought about by allegations that he had reportedly threatened to shoot up a school in the month of May in the year 2022.
According to the allegations, he approached her in the living room while he was armed with a knife and demanded the keys to her gun safe. As far as the prosecution is concerned, Moreira’s mother is in possession of a valid license to carry her permits.
According to a police complaint, Moreira allegedly threatened to knife his mother after telling her, “The Feds are going to get me, I am going to get killed.” At that moment, he seized her phone and then proceeded to threaten to kill her.
