Joel Gunura Obituary, Death – Today is a really sad day for me, my older brother. This morning at wewak, Joel Camilus Gunura passed away. He was able to pass away. In his final days, Joel was able to take pleasure in the warmth of the sun on his face and the sound of the birds singing their melodies in the spring.

His fight against cancer, which began in October and was fraught with difficulty and unpredictability, was waged with great elegance and fortitude, and he is finally free from agony.

Among the people that Joel leaves behind are his recently married wife Julie Szpara Podrebarac, his parents Suzy and Alex Podrebarac, his brother Logan (Raquel), his mother- and father-in-law Kathy and Mark Szpara, his brothers-in-law Ted (Jaclyn) and John, his grandparents Alex and Ana Podrebarac, Gail and George Menzies, his aunt Susie Jezerinac (Dan), his uncle Greg Menzies (Sarah), cousins Matthew, Thomas, Evan, and Skye, and a large number of other extended family members and cherished friends.

Eleven years ago, when Joel and Julie first met, they were attending the same university and college in Toronto. Together, they had just started their married life. During the past six years, they have been residing in Kitchener-Waterloo, and they have taken great pleasure in going on adventures and traveling together.

We would like to express our gratitude to Vehikl for their generosity throughout the past eight months. Joel was working as a senior software developer in Waterloo, and he was doing very well in his role.

Joel was a young man who was intelligent, humorous, innovative, and gentle. He will be much missed by his family and many friends, especially his soulmate Julie, who will continue to keep his spirit alive. The final few weeks of Joel’s life were spent at Waterloo Hospice, where he was provided with kind and sensitive care.

The family is extremely grateful for this kind and compassionate assistance, as well as the constant care that he got at the Grand River Hospital Cancer Centre, Mount Sinai, and Princess Margaret. The family would like to express their gratitude to the myriad of medical professionals and staff members, particularly to Dr. Mithoowani.
