Steve Reeves Obituary, Death – During the past month, my buddy and fellow classmate Steve Reeves, who graduated with us in 1977, went away suddenly in his home. It is with a heavy heart that I have to post this news. Numerous people will miss him very much. In Rockville, Maryland, on November 10th, Stephen Frank “Steve” Reeves, who was 64 years old, died away in a calm and serene manner with his family at his side. According to his parents, Frank and Arlette (Espenshade) Reeves, he was born in Abington, Pennsylvania on May 28, 1959.
He received his high school diploma from Abington High School in 1977 and his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Pennsylvania State University in 1981. In addition to being a member of the Skull & Bones senior honor society, he was also an active participant in the student government at Penn State.
Steve Reeves began his professional life and his family in Baltimore, where he was married to Lyn (Genetti) Reeves. After beginning his career at Ernst & Young, he went on to hold positions at Black & Decker, where he eventually rose through the ranks to become Chief Financial Officer.
As Chief Financial Officer, he was responsible for guiding Enviva Biomass through its initial public offering (IPO) in Bethesda, Maryland, where he started working in 2012. His marriage to Penny (Grzelak) Reeves took place in 2016, and the couple initially lived in Kiawah, South Carolina, before moving to Boerne, Texas, where they raised their son, Greyson Reeves.
Steve was a passionate traveler, golfer, and fan of live music on a regular basis. He stayed actively involved in Penn State alumni gatherings, including serving on the Board of Visitors at the Smeal College of Business and supporting scholarships, because he had a deep belief in the value of education and felt it was his job to give back to the community.
The knowledge, generosity, sincerity, and dark sense of humor that he possessed will be remembered by those who knew him as well as those who were close to him. The counsel he provided was consistently rational, well-informed, and sound. The loss of him is profound. Penny and Kenneth Warren Reeves, his brother, passed away before him. He was the last of his members.
He is survived by his parents, three children from his marriage to Lyn, namely son Pierce (Colleen) Reeves, son Preston (Lauren Berry) Reeves, and daughter Bailey (Travis Mount) Reeves, as well as four grandchildren; son Greyson, from his marriage to Penny; a sister Beverly (Keith).
Thompson and her family; and Penny’s immediate and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents. In the new year, there will be a memorial service held for his immediate family members alone.
