Death of David Somers Authorities said that “underlying domestic issues” and “accusations of infidelity” played a part in the Boston Township murder-suicide that killed a couple from Kaleva and seriously wounded an 18-year-old girl. In a statement released on Wednesday, officers from the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office said that a fight that happened just before the shooting on January 6 along I-96 may have been the catalyst for the shooting deaths of Lisa Somers, 50, and David Somers, 51.

After speaking with Amedy Dewey, a survivor of the incident and Lisa’s daughter, law enforcement investigators discovered further information that added to the tragedy. As she continues to heal from his horrific incident, “sheriff’s detectives left their meeting with Amedy Dewey with a tremendous amount of respect for the courage, tenacity and strength that this young woman has displayed both during and after this ordeal,” the police press release said.

Before the event, Lisa reportedly texted her hubby many times and called him to accuse him of adultery throughout their four-year marriage, according to the police. About twenty to thirty minutes before the event, David met Lisa and Amedy from the Gerald R. Ford. The International Airport in Grand Rapids is next. It was the reunion of two ladies after an expedition to the Bahamas. Lisa and Amedy were supposed to go with David, but for some reason, the day before they were supposed to leave, David did not show up.

Although the exact effect of the tumour on David will never be known, police confirmed that David’s treatment for a brain mass or tumour, which was purportedly a cause in the shooting, may also have contributed to the event. In 2016, the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into David after he was allegedly having sex with a girl who was 17 years old.

In February 2017, David entered a guilty plea to the charge of selling or providing alcohol to a minor in Manistee County’s 85th District Court. He was given a $425 fine; he was neither placed on probation or sent to jail. Amedy gave Ionia County Sheriff’s Office officers details of the event while she was still recovering from her wounds.

After David picked up the two ladies from the airport on January 6, the three of them headed to Midland, where Amedy was reportedly staying with a family friend. She informed authorities that neither Lisa nor Amedy knew the day in question the car had a handgun. Police said that David grew enraged and drove the car recklessly at extreme speeds on 1-96 after an encounter became violent when he was travelling east.

As to the media statement, David lost his temper and abruptly slowed down the car, pulling it off the road, and stopping it. He then got out of the car and approached the rear of the vehicle. “When Amedy heard her mother yell, ‘he’s got a gun,’ Lisa and Amedy both got out of the car.” The cops said that Amedy got back inside the car and tried to hide from David as he called 911 to ask for help. Shortly thereafter, David fired a single 12-gauge slug shot that took her in the head.

Investigators discovered that the missile had entered the car via the back lift gate that had been opened. When Amedy heard the news, she told the investigators, her first response was, “I will not perish; this is not the manner in which I intend to pass away.” Amedy flashed her headlights to alert passing cars for help while trying to call 911 on her cell phone.

When detectives arrived, they found Lisa and David dead on the side of the road with gunshot wounds to the head, leading them to believe the occurrence was a murder-suicide. The handgun was found hidden under David, who was later identified as the attacker. Amedy is now receiving therapy at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital after being released from the critical care unit. As of Monday, Amedy’s family is reporting on caringbridge.org that he is able to walk and talk again.
