Holiday Inn Express in Fort Lauderdale on lockdown after reports of active shooter
A Holiday Inn in Fort Lauderdale is currently under lockdown amid reports of an active shooter this morning, with SWAT teams reportedly deployed to the scene.
A significant police presence was observed in the Harbordale area of Fort Lauderdale after reports emerged of a police officer being shot.
Individuals turned to social media to share their observations, with one individual mentioning the presence of SWAT teams in the vicinity and the closure of the roads.
Witnesses also noted the presence of multiple helicopters circling overhead.
Professional players from the Call of Duty League, in town for the CDL Miami Major competition, were reportedly staying at the hotel when the shooter allegedly opened fire.
A person claiming to be a guest at the hotel shared their experience on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating: “Just got taken out of the room with m16s everywhere and pulled to the lobby in my boxers; this is insane.”
A former Call of Duty world champion, known as NYSL DREAL on X, cautioned gamers near the Holiday Inn to stay in their rooms, citing reports of two active shooters in the vicinity.
While police have not confirmed the number of active shooters, a spokesperson for Fort Lauderdale did confirm that an officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Broward Health Medical Center.
Authorities have not yet confirmed if any suspects have been apprehended.
