Doug Harrison dies Doug Harrison died on Monday, March 18, 2024, shocking us. Aged 83. Our hearts are burdened as we update you. Doug was driven by love, commitment, and enthusiasm. Family, camaraderie, and sportsmanship were deeply woven into his path.
He is leaving his devoted family and his beloved wife of over sixty years, Chris, who was at his side through every joy and struggle. Doug, the loving father of Vicky, Kathy, and Matt (Tina), and the joyful grandpa of DJ and Jayden, brought him much delight throughout his life.
Doug’s love of sports and competitiveness began early with his brother Roy. Doug’s competitiveness showed in badminton, golf, table tennis, and basketball. Everyone who played with or against him remembers him. He co-founded Transway Girls Basketball in 1979 during his forty-year career at Stelco.
His passion went beyond delight. Due to Doug’s dedication and vision, this effort became a provincial powerhouse. More than his accomplishments, Doug’s legacy will be the lives he affected. His compassion, guidance, and unwavering support changed many people’s destinies and motivated them to dream.
Let us honour his generosity, perseverance, and friendship as we reflect on his incredible journey. Doug’s effect will last much beyond his lifetime, even if he’s gone.
Visitation will be held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton, on Friday, March 22nd, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and on Saturday, March 23rd, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. St. Paul’s United Church, 42 Tragina Avenue, Hamilton, will host the funeral on Sunday, March 24th.
