Gene Elders’s Death and Obituary: Gene Elders, a beloved band member of Ace In the Hole, passed away. American singer-songwriter George Strait is grieving his loss.

Gene Elders’ death was announced via social media posts. He had a really gifted musical voice. He was most renowned for his work as a violinist, although he was also a mandolinist, concertina musician, producer, writer, arranger, and recording engineer. For Gene Elders, there was no listed cause of death.

The following statement was published by George Strait:

It’s hard to realise that on the same day, we lost two members of our music family. Shortly after we lost Erv, our beloved band mate Gene Elders of Ace In the Hole died away this afternoon.

Our thoughts and prayers are with both families. Without our brother Gene, the band and I will never be the same. We had a great fondness for him. Geno, go play with Mike once again. Later on, we’ll come see you folks.

Concerning Gene Elders
Gene has been a mandolin and violin player with George Strait’s Ace in the Hole Band since 1984. Furthermore, he has played the violin for eleven years with Lyle Lovett’s Large Band.

He toured both in the US and Europe with the Joan Baez ensemble, accompanied by his wife Betty. Gene’s favourite musical setting was the recording studio, where he was most comfortable and productive.

He has worked with a wide range of performers, including George Strait, Robert Earl Keen, Dale Watson, Lyle Lovett, Pat Green, The Derailers, Joan Baez, Iain Matthews, Tish Hinojosa, Lucinda Williams, Bruce Robison, Jimmy Lafave, Dan Fogelberg Townes Van Zandt, Kevin Fowler, Larry Sparks, Claire Lynch, Mitch Watkins, and Betty Elders. His extensive resume includes both live and recorded performances.

Not only could Gene Elders fit in effortlessly with a broad range of musical settings, but he also had a remarkable musical voice all by itself. His unique, deep, and rich violin tone, together with his perceptive and astute note choices, served as the foundation for this voice. Apart from all of that, he had a great personality and a dry sense of humour, and we laughed a lot together throughout the years.
