Elijah Alperin (Death Story) Elijah Norman Alperin, AB’19, of New York City, was married to Madeline De Figueiredo. He died from an accident on November 1, 2021, while traveling abroad. During his time at Japanese bicultural primary and intermediate schools, his interest in languages and cultures had deepened. Over his life, he visited and lived in six different nations.

Madeline is in charge of CS&S’s programs and communications. Her passion is developing and implementing communications architecture and programming that nurtures and expands relationships. Madeline is thrilled to be a part of the CS&S Programmes team, supporting their efforts to create new channels of communication, increase their reach, and reconsider the open ecosystem.
She has taken classes in Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, and Bulgarian. She is a passionate language learner and supporter of linguistic inclusivity, emphasizing the expansion of accessibility outside the languages of the hegemonic west. Madeline has worked for Human Rights Watch, OpenArchive, and the Center for Legal Aid – Voice in Bulgaria in the past.
Based in Houston, Madeline works as a freelance writer and journalist. She is dedicated to preserving the present to fight erasure. She is preparing to become an end-of-life doula while learning Urdu. Her work mostly focuses on bereavement, technology, and health.
