Michael O’Neal’s passing Agents of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division have declared that they are looking into a deadly shooting that involved an officer that occurred in the Summerville area. A representative for the SLED named Renée Wunderlich gave this information, saying that the agency would release further details as soon as they become available.
Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell estimates that the event happened at one o’clock in the afternoon. Hartwell claims that just before 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, his agency got a report about a gunshot at 1312 North Main Street. There was a reported shooting. The victim was identified as a 39-year-old North Carolina resident by the name of Michael P. O’Neal.
Hartwell verified that it was a guy who had been shot and died from his wounds. An off-duty officer from the Summerville Police Department was hurt in the incident, according to Captain Chris Hirsch of the department, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Hartwell said that the officer’s wounds were not thought to be life-threatening. Their name hasn’t been revealed to the public yet.
“We set out to uncover the truth today because it is our job to do so. Once again, this is a step in the process to make sure we examine these instances thoroughly. We acknowledge that individuals are taking time off between jobs and in other such circumstances, but we are certain that we will thoroughly look into these cases.
We want to make sure that the deceased victim, his family, and the law enforcement officer are all in our thoughts and prayers today. It is unknown exactly what happened before to the disaster. There will be a large police presence near the Chick-fil-A restaurant on North Main Street, according to a warning from the Summerville Police Department.
Vehicle traffic was barred from the area for the six or so hours while investigators were on the scene. The police have asked drivers to “avoid the area until the situation is resolved” in an Instagram post, but they haven’t given any details on what the crisis entails.
