Beloved Wilson Attorney David Woodard Remembered for Lifetime of Service and Dedication
The community of Wilson mourns the loss of David Warren Woodard, Jr., a pillar of strength and integrity, whose dedication to his profession and his community spanned over five decades. David, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, leaves behind a legacy of compassion, generosity, and unwavering commitment.
A native of Wilson, David’s roots ran deep in the community he cherished. He obtained his high school diploma from Ralph L. Fike and pursued higher education at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where he was an esteemed member of the Zeta Psi fraternity. His thirst for knowledge led him to further his studies in law at the University of North Carolina, followed by a master’s degree in taxation from the prestigious New York University School of Law.
David’s professional journey as an attorney was marked by his sharp intellect, unwavering honesty, and a genuine concern for those he served. He guided countless individuals through both triumphs and challenges, earning their trust and admiration along the way. His commitment to his hometown of Wilson was evident in his fervent support for its growth and development.
Beyond his legal career, David found joy in simple pleasures – coaching his daughters in soccer, cheering on the North Carolina Tar Heels, and indulging in a good book on the porch in Morehead City. He instilled in his daughters the values of generosity, compassion, and dedication, leaving behind a lasting legacy as a father.
The memorial service to honor David’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 26th, at eleven o’clock in the morning at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilson, North Carolina, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Romaine and Dave Woodard Memorial Fund at First Presbyterian Church.
David Woodard is survived by his devoted wife, Mial Broadfoot Woodard, and his daughters Romaine Clark Woodard (Gabe Tiller) of Raleigh, North Carolina; Kate Woodard Marks (Smith) of New Orleans, Louisiana; and Warren Woodard of New York, New York.
