Brookwood High School lockdowns in 2022
A spokesman for Gwinnett County Public Schools stated that a man who called Snellville police threatening to hurt himself and another threatening to shoot students at the school resulted in lockdowns at Brookwood High School on Wednesday morning. Spokesman for the Gloucester County Police Department Bernard Watson said that the issues began at nine in the morning with a soft lockdown but were later elevated to a hard lockdown after it was discovered that a social media threat had surfaced, claiming that someone was already on campus carrying a pistol.

Brookwood High was placed on a soft lockdown, Watson said, after Snellville (Police Department) contacted us at about nine in the morning, stating that someone had called them and claimed they planned to kill themselves in the area around Brookwood. The school went into heavy lockdown in response to a social media post that surfaced at 10 a.m. claiming that someone was inside the building and threatening to shoot it down.

In response to the call and the social media threat, Gwinnett County police and their counterparts from Gwinnett County Public Schools looked into Brookwood’s campus for any current threats. But according to Gwinnett police, as of 11:30 a.m., no “credible threat” had been found. Watson claims that the hard lockdown was eased to a soft lockdown shortly after 11 a.m. and that it remained at that level for the balance of the school day. The police department claimed that school management helped parents who wanted to see their kids.

High School Brookwood
As a component of the Gwinnett County School System, Brookwood High School is a public secondary school located in Snellville, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. Snellville, Lawrenceville, and Lilburn are just a some of the southern Gwinnett County communities that Brookwood services. In order to relieve some of the congestion at the neighboring South Gwinnett High School and Parkview High School, plans for Brookwood High School were initiated in 1977.

Gwinnett County educators convened as a group to develop and deliberate on the facility’s specifications. 1981 saw the formal opening of the school with Emmett Lawson serving as principal. The school got its name because of its location at the crossroads of Dogwood Road and Holly Brook Road, a portion of which is now Webb Gin House Road. The maroon and gold colors of the school were inspired by Florida State University’s colors.

The horseshoe that surrounded the Bronco in the previous school mascot was eventually taken off. Brookwood’s proposal to become the Brookwood Bears came from the administration. The present emblem just features the head of a bronco; the original mascot was a drawing of the full animal. The Bruins were the mascot of choice for runners-up, while baby blue and gold was the second-place color combination.
