A man’s gun was accidentally fired inside a brewery in Ipswich on Friday, leaving him and a child hospitalized and another person injured, authorities said.
Police were called to the True North Ale Company brewery at 116 County Road shortly after 5:15 p.m. for a report of a gun being fired. Officers discovered a man in the dining area of the brewery who had been shot when the gun he was carrying accidentally fired. Two others, including a child, were grazed by shrapnel, according to a statement from Ipswich Chief of Police Paul Nikas.
There is no threat to the general public, Nikas noted in his statement.
The child, who was also in the dining area, was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution since the juvenile was grazed by a piece of shrapnel, the statement said.
The third individual also suffered a minor injury due to shrapnel, but the person declined transportation to the hospital, according to the police chief.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Ipswich Police Department, with assistance from the Essex District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Ballistics and Crime Scene Services sections.
