Gladys Lanore Pfertzel Obituary, Native of Dougherty, IA, Has passed away at Age 100

Gladys Lanore Pfertzel Obituary, Death – On Friday, March 29, 2024, Gladys Lanore Pfertzel, 100, passed away at the Nora Springs Care Center, surrounded by her family.

Mary (Conners) Hogan and James Hogan had a daughter named Gladys on November 23, 1923, in the Iowa town of Dougherty. After finishing high school in Dougherty at St. Patrick’s, Gladys went on to graduate in 1941

. Following that, she spent 22 years driving school buses for the RRMR School District and worked as a housekeeper for Rockford’s Mercy Medical Center.

They were married in Dougherty, Iowa on November 12, 1946, after Gladys met her soulmate, Eugene Pfertzel, at a dance just before he left for overseas duty with the Marines. By this union, Bonnie Scurry and Richard Pfertzel were born. Taking care of her flowers, baking treats, painting, and spending time with her family were commonplace activities for her.

Remaining to honor Gladys’ memory are her offspring, Bonnie Scurry and Richard (Diane) Pfertzel; great-grandchildren, Emilie Carlson, Skylar Pfertzel, and Remington Pfertzel; and granddaughters, Jena Scurry, Logan Pfertzel, Ellie Carlson, and Alona Pfertzel. Leonard Scurry, daughter-in-law of Gladys Pfertzel, her parents James and Mary Hogan, sisters Lillian Anderegg, Dorothy Foley, and Doris Ewen, brother Donald Hogan, and husband Eugene Pfertzel all passed away before her.

The Reverend Frantz Augustin will preside over a funeral Mass on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Holy Name Catholic Church, 507 1st Ave NW, Rockford, IA 50468. On Friday, visits will start at 9:30 AM and last until the start of the Mass. Then there will be a burial at Rockford, Iowa’s Riverside Cemetery.
