Larry Lucchino Obituary, Death Cause – During a rally that took place at the State House in 2007, Mr. Lucchino displayed the World Series trophies that the Red Sox had won in 2004 and 2007.

Larry Lucchino, who served as president of the Red Sox for three years and won three World Series wins during that time, including the first one that broke an 86-year drought, passed away on Tuesday. He was 78 years old.

John Henry, the owner of the organization, referred to Mr. Lucchino as “one of the most important executives in the history of baseball.” Mr. Lucchino previously served as president of the Baltimore Orioles and the San Diego Padres, both of which had significant improvements shortly following his addition to their respective teams.

Beginning in 2002, he was a member of the Boston Red Sox for 15 years, during which time the team made seven appearances in the postseason and won the World Series in 2004, 2007, and 2013.

Additionally, Mr. Lucchino served as the chairman of the Jimmy Fund from the year 2016 until the time of his passing. The Jimmy Fund is the official charity of the Boston Red Sox and the organization raises millions of dollars for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Nevertheless, the five ballparks that were constructed or remodeled under Mr. Lucchino’s direction constituted the more permanent legacy that he left behind.

The statement was made by Mr. Lucchino. “I once asked [former commissioner Bud Selig] what is the most difficult thing he’s ever done,” he added. “He responded by saying, ‘That’s easy. Making efforts to construct a baseball stadium.’”
