One can trace Osman’s heritage back to the Kayı branch of the Oğuz Turkmen tribal group, which is a Turkmen ethnic group. This was accomplished by his father, Ertugrul, who was responsible for the construction of a principality with Sogut serving as its center. Osman and the Muslim border fighters (Ghazis) under his leadership fought in a protracted and tenacious conflict against the Byzantines against the backdrop of Sogut, which served as their base.

The Byzantines were making an effort to safeguard their territories in the hinterland of the Asian shore, which is located directly across from Constantinople, which is today known as Istanbul. Yenişehir was one of the many ancient Byzantine fortifications that Osman gradually expanded his influence over over the course of more than a century.

With this castle serving as a solid launching point, the Ottomans were able to lay siege to Bursa and Nicaea, which is today known as İznik and is situated in the northern part of Anatolia. Beginning on April 6, 1326, Orhan, Osman’s son, took over as Sultan of Bursa after his father.

It was he who assumed command of the city. According to Ottoman legend, Osman is claimed to have gone away immediately after the conquest of Bursa. However, there are researchers who have argued that his death should be placed in the year 1324, which is the year that Orhan became emperor. This is because Osman’s death occurred in the same year that Orhan established his rule.
