Pecatonica, Illinois, is in mourning following the unexpected passing of Brad Dummer, a respected businessman, devoted family man, and active community member, who died on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the age of 45. The cause of Brad Dummer’s death has yet to be disclosed, leaving a community in search of answers and solace during this difficult time.

Born on December 13, 1978, in Rockford, IL, Brad was the cherished son of Craig and Cathy (Bean) Dummer. He was a product of Pecatonica, having graduated from Pecatonica High School in 1997, before furthering his education at Highland Community College with an Associate Degree in agriculture. Brad’s life was a testament to his passion for farming and his dedication to the agricultural community. On September 29, 2012, he married Kara Phillips in Rockford, IL, and together they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect.

Professionally, Brad was known for his significant contributions to farming operations and his role as a representative for Pioneer Hybrid International, specializing in seed sales and crop insurance. In 2014, he took a bold step in founding Dummer Seed Services (DSS), through which he provided invaluable agricultural services to the community, including Veris Technologies offerings. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence made DSS a trusted name among local farmers and beyond.

Brad’s influence extended far beyond his professional endeavors. He was an active member of the Winnebago County Fair Board of Directors and participated in local truck pulling events with the Southwest Wisconsin Pullers, showcasing his love for the sport and community engagement. Known for his intelligence, kindness, and caring nature, Brad was a friend and mentor to many, always willing to lend a hand or share a word of encouragement.

Above all, Brad cherished the moments spent with his young family, who were the center of his world. He is survived by his loving wife Kara, their children Preston and Myrah, his parents Craig and Cathy, his brother Brian (Amber), and a close-knit family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Brad was predeceased by his grandparents, whose memory he held dear.

A funeral ceremony to celebrate Brad Dummer’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 13, at McCorkle Funeral Home – Pecatonica Chapel, with a visitation scheduled for Friday, April 12, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The community is invited to come together to remember a man whose legacy is defined by his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to agriculture, and his generous spirit.

As Pecatonica comes to terms with this tremendous loss, Brad Dummer’s memory will continue to inspire and influence those he touched. His contributions to the agricultural sector, his involvement in community affairs, and the love he shared with his family and friends will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
