Eugene McClure Obituary: 41-year-old Owensboro man killed in Tuesday shooting at East 20th Street; Samuel Lee Hamilton arrest & charges.
The Daviess County Coroner’s Office on Thursday, April 11 identified the person killed in Tuesday shooting incident as Eugene A. McClure, 41, of Owensboro. McClure was pronounced dead at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. No other information about the victim was made available.
Following the shooting, Samuel Lee Hamilton, 19, of Owensboro, is accused of three crimes, including murder, according to a statement released by the Owensboro Police Department on April 10.
OPD reports that on April 9 at 9:12 p.m., officers were called to the 1100 block of East 20th Street in response to a gunshot wound sustained by a male victim. Aid was given after AMR and the Owensboro Fire Department arrived on the scene.
The victim was sent to the Regional Hospital of Owensboro Health.
OPD Criminal Investigations kept looking into the matter, speaking with a number of witnesses and analyzing the data that pointed to Hamilton as the suspect. The firearm was found by detectives on the scene, who discovered it had been stolen in 2023.
The Daviess County Detention Center is now housing Hamilton. He was accused of murder as well as receiving stolen property (a firearm) and tampering with tangible evidence.
