Isabela Osler Obituary Branford: In loving memory of Branford High student killed in I-91 crash in New Haven, CT.

According to state police, the SUV they were riding in flipped over on Interstate 91 on Wednesday night, killing a 17-year-old Branford girl and gravely injuring a teenage driver.

According to the agency, Isabela Jane Osler was ejected from the Jeep Cherokee during the accident and was brought to Yale New Haven Hospital by emergency personnel, where she was later declared deceased.

The 17-year-old Hamden resident who was driving the vehicle was taken to the hospital with “serious injuries,” according to state police.

According to officials, Osler was a senior at Branford High School.

Christopher Tranberg, the superintendent of schools in Branford, said in a statement on Thursday that Osler’s “caring and compassionate presence will be greatly missed by all those close to her.”

“Please join me in extending sympathy and condolences to Isabela’s family,” he stated.

The collision happened close to Exit 7 in the southbound lanes. Troops were dispatched to the scene just after 10 p.m., according to state police.

According to state police, investigators discovered that the 1993 Jeep Cherokee Sport had started “encroaching” from the right lane into the highway’s right-center lane. For a “active DOT milling project,” traffic was being diverted to the right using construction cones, according to the agency.

According to state police, the Jeep struck a commercial Freightliner vehicle pulling a flatbed trailer.

The agency stated in an accident information summary that the Jeep “commenced into a spin and subsequently rolled over” following the incident. Osler “was ejected and was pronounced deceased at Yale New Haven Hospital after sustaining fatal injuries” after the rollover, according to the police.

According to the summary, the 17-year-old driver was also taken to Yale New Haven hospital.

The commercial truck’s driver was unharmed. According to state police, the Jeep was towed from the crash scene.

According to Tranberg, grief counseling services will be offered to Branford High School students, faculty, and families on Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. He said that should there be any community needs over the weekend, there will also be on-call services offered by the Branford Counseling Center.

“Since my arrival last July, it has been and remains clear that the Branford community quickly comes together to help those when they are in need,” he stated. “Unfortunately, this is among the saddest times when a high level of support and care for one another is needed.”

Trooper Daniel McCue #792 at CSP Troop I or daniel.mccue@ct.gov is the person to contact if you have any information on the crash or were a witness.
