The individual who was shot on West 19th Street in Holland on Saturday has succumbed to his injuries.

According to the Holland Department of Public Safety, Miguel Zamudio passed away on Sunday, a day after sustaining gunshot wounds outside a relative’s residence.

Officers discovered the 41-year-old lying in the driveway on April 13 around 2:15 p.m., having sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Zamudio was transported to the hospital and subsequently transferred to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators reported that the assailant approached Zamudio and his relatives while brandishing a firearm.

Despite the family’s attempt to seek refuge inside their residence, the suspect opened fire, injuring Zamudio.

Subsequently, the suspect was apprehended at a neighboring residence.

During the arrest, the 27-year-old falsely claimed to have left explosive devices, leading to evacuation orders for residences within a 500-foot radius.

Bomb technicians from the ATF conducted a search of the premises but found no explosives. Investigators determined that the perpetrator had no prior connections to either the victim or the residence where he was apprehended.

Additionally, detectives discovered that the shooter had previously threatened his girlfriend with a firearm in a domestic incident before the shooting occurred; however, the woman managed to escape.

The suspect is currently detained while the prosecutor’s office endeavors to press charges against him for homicide.
