Eileen Monaghan Obituary News: Executive Assistant to Sheriff Nick Cocchi Brutally Murdered in Holyoke by Stabbing

The Holyoke murder victim from over the weekend has been identified as the Executive Assistant to Hampden County Sheriff, Nick Cocchi. Western Mass News has also learned that the suspect charged in connection with her murder is a Chicopee firefighter.

Eileen Monaghan, from Chicopee, was 48 years old.

Both the Hampden District Attorney’s Office and the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office identified her on Monday. Monaghan died on Sunday after being stabbed in the early morning hours.

Police were called to the scene after receiving a 9-1-1 call at 1:30 a.m. regarding suspicious activity in the 200 block of South Water Street in Holyoke.

“On scene, responding officers discovered two adult individuals, a male and a female. The female victim appeared to be suffering from stab wounds and the male was unresponsive due to self-inflicted harm. Officers rendered aid to both, with the female victim tragically succumbing to her injuries,” explained James Leydon, representative of the Hampden DA’s Office.

According to Robert Rizzuto with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office, Monaghan worked as the executive assistant to Sheriff Nick Cocchi.

In a Facebook post Monday, the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office said, “domestic violence” claimed her life and that she was “brutally murdered…allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend.”
