Eileen Monaghan Death: Chicopee firefighter allegedly stabs girlfriend to death.
Eileen Monaghan Death – A Chicopee firefighter has been accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend over the weekend in western Massachusetts. On Sunday around 1:30 a.m., Holyoke police were called to the 200 block of South Water Street due to suspicious activity.
Upon arrival, they discovered a man and a woman at the scene. The woman had apparent stab wounds, while the man was unresponsive due to self-inflicted injuries. Despite receiving medical attention, the woman, identified as 48-year-old Eileen Monaghan of Chicopee, passed away.
The man, 52-year-old Jason Chapdelaine of Springfield, was arrested and charged with murder. Reports indicate that the two were in a relationship. Chapdelaine pleaded not guilty during his arraignment at Holyoke District Court on Tuesday and was remanded without bail.
He is set to appear in court again on May 13. Chapdelaine’s employment as a firefighter in Chicopee has been suspended without pay following his arrest.
Monaghan, an executive assistant to Sheriff Nick Cocchi and a mother of two, was described as a beloved and dedicated individual by her colleagues.
Sheriff Cocchi expressed his condolences, highlighting Monaghan’s positive impact on those around her. Monaghan is survived by her daughters and a large family spanning from western Massachusetts to Ireland.
