Thomas L. Gibson Obituary – The 62-year-old man who was killed in a collision on I-435 earlier this week has been identified by the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department as Thomas L. Gibson.
The incident occurred near North Blue Ridge, at the area of northbound I-435 and Winner Rd. On Tuesday, authorities responded to reports of a pedestrian-vehicle collision and discovered that Gibson had been attempting to cross the northbound lanes when he was struck by a silver GMC Yukon Denali in the first lane.
Sadly, Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Denali remained unharmed and stopped immediately. The highway was temporarily closed for approximately three hours as the scene was cleared.
No additional details regarding why Gibson was walking in traffic have been disclosed. According to the KCPD, this marks the 34th traffic fatality recorded in 2024, compared to 20 at the same time in 2023.
