Donald Washington Obituary – On Thursday, the man who was fatally shot by officers from the Long Beach Police Department in a park in the Cambodia Town area of the city was identified as Donald Washington, a 46-year-old resident of Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
The incident occurred on Wednesday around 4:20 p.m. when the LBPD received a report of an armed suspect in MacArthur Park near 14th Street and Gundry Avenue.
The responding officers repeatedly instructed the suspect to drop his weapon, but he failed to comply. As a result, at least one officer fired their weapon.
Officers provided immediate medical assistance to the suspect until Long Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived. The man was then transported to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The recovered firearm was taken into evidence, and no officers were harmed during the incident.
The LBPD stated that the officers involved were equipped with body-worn cameras, and the footage will be reviewed and made available to the public in due course.
