Chicago Shooting; Off-Duty Chicago Police Officer Shot To Death Two Days Before 31st Birthday On Southwest Side

Authorities claimed that a Chicago police officer was shot and killed early on Sunday following his duty on the Southwest Side, two days before he turned thirty-one.

The Chicago Fire Department reports that paramedics were sent to the 3100 block of West 56th Street just before three in the morning in response to an officer shot.

Supt. Larry Snelling told reporters outside the University of Chicago on Sunday morning that the officer, a 30-year-old man, was transferred to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he passed away from his injuries.

According to Snelling, the officer was shot many times as he was leaving the station to go home. He spent six years as an employee of the department. Snelling remarked, “We lost one of our own today.” “He was simply a wonderful officer and person.”

He stated that the officer’s car had been seized, but he did not confirm that the shooting was the consequence of a carjacking. Snelling declared, “Our community members are losing their lives as a result of these senseless, senseless crimes.”
