Helen Thompson Dead, Police Share Updates on Weekend Crash that Claimed 3 Lives, Including 2 Children, in Del City
Police have disclosed additional information regarding a fatal single-vehicle accident that resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including two children, in Del City over the weekend.
Around 8:10 p.m. on Saturday, law enforcement officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of Southeast 15th Street near Bryant and Sunnylane Road following reports of a collision. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a vehicle that had collided with a tree.
A 6-year-old girl, who had been ejected from the car, was found deceased at the scene. It was noted in a press release that the girl was not properly restrained in the vehicle prior to the accident.
The driver, identified as 54-year-old Helen Thompson, along with two other occupants, were trapped inside the vehicle and required extrication. A 9-year-old boy managed to exit the vehicle unassisted, as per police reports.
Following extrication, a 7-year-old boy who was trapped in the car was pronounced dead. Thompson and a 13-year-old girl were transported to OU Trauma Center, where the 54-year-old woman was later pronounced deceased.
The 13-year-old girl was reported to be in critical condition during the latest update, while the 9-year-old boy was listed in stable condition.
Authorities have not confirmed the children’s relationships to Thompson and have not revealed their identities.
As of Monday morning, the crash remains under investigation. Law enforcement officials have indicated that speed may have played a role in the incident.
