Myron Fair, Ricky Elliot Obituary – Rochester police are currently investigating three recent homicides, one of which involved a taxi driver believed to be in his 40s who was found dead on Monday following a carjacking incident.
Rochester Mayor Malik Evans expressed disappointment during a press conference on Monday, stating that he had hoped to end April without any homicides. He encouraged the community to come forward with any information related to the alleged killings, emphasizing that someone out there knows something.
The first homicide occurred on Sunday morning when 35-year-old Ricky Elliot was found shot multiple times and later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
The victim was reportedly involved in a street conflict. Later that same day, 53-year-old Myron Fair was discovered dead in an apartment complex, described as an isolated incident with no threat to the community.
The identity of the deceased taxi driver has not been disclosed by the police. He was found early Monday morning with a chest wound on the side of a road, with reports indicating that his car was stolen and later abandoned.
The driver was on duty at the time of the incident, which occurred shortly after 3 a.m. Rochester Police Chief David Smith, alongside Mayor Evans, appealed to the public for assistance on Monday.
While it remains unclear if the three deaths are linked, Chief Smith mentioned that most homicides in the city result from violent retaliatory disputes. In 2023, there were 58 reported homicides in Rochester, marking a 32% decrease from the previous year.
Chief Smith noted that 70% of the city’s homicides were solved in 2023, with a similar clearance rate expected for 2024. Rochester, located in western New York, has an estimated population of around 211,000 people according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
