Richard Lavar Edwards Jr 44-Year-Old Resident Of Birmingham Lost His Life In A Shooting Incident
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died in a shooting incident over the weekend in Birmingham as Richard Lavar Edwards Jr., a 44-year-old Birmingham resident.
Officers from the West Precinct were called to Holt Avenue in the Pratt community at 2:15 a.m. on Sunday following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Edwards in an unresponsive state in the yard of a residence.
Emergency responders from the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him deceased at the scene at 2:38 a.m. According to Officer Truman Fitzgerald, a member of the community contacted 911 after hearing the gunshots.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Edwards’ death marks the 43rd homicide in Birmingham this year, with four of the cases being classified as justifiable and not criminal offenses.
