Tlaloc Pena-Mota Obituary – The fatal collision occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. on Monday, April 22, involving three vehicles on FM 1010 south of Cleveland. Tragically, one man lost his life, and two others, all residents of Cleveland, sustained injuries. Sgt. Rob Willoughby, who oversees the Liberty County office of the Texas Department of Public Safety, confirmed that the deceased individual was Tlaloc Pena-Mota, aged 47. His family has been informed of the unfortunate incident.

Pena-Mota was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado pickup southbound on FM 1010 when he crossed into the opposite lane, colliding with two other vehicles. These vehicles included a 2013 GMS Sierra pickup operated by Elmer Ramos Landaverde, 35, and a 2010 Ford Edge driven by Dina Romero Avilez, 41, both from Cleveland.

The impact of the collision caused Pena-Mota’s truck to strike Landaverde’s vehicle on the driver’s side before hitting Avilez’s car. While Landaverde and his teenage passenger escaped unharmed, Avilez and her 18-year-old daughter sustained severe injuries due to the head-on collision. They were rushed to HCA Kingwood Hospital for treatment.

Pena-Mota was pronounced dead at the accident site. Following an examination, Pct. 6 Justice of the Peace Ralph Fuller ordered an autopsy. Authorities suspect that Pena-Mota may have fallen asleep behind the wheel while returning home after dropping off his child at school.

The crash led to a temporary closure of FM 1010. Trooper Corey Prantil handled the investigation, with assistance from an additional trooper from a neighboring county.
