According to his family, Howie Schwab, an iconic ESPN producer and host of the trivia program “Stump the Schwab,” passed away on Saturday at the age of sixty-three.

In 1987, Schwab began working for ESPN, a position he held until 2013. In addition to his involvement on several ESPN series, he was most recognized for being the last person to face off in a trivia competition for cash prizes on “Stump the Schwab,” where competitors would try to outsmart him. The program aired between 2004 and 2006.

ESPN analyst Dick Vitale said in a statement, “Howie played a vital role in my career — his incredible research was so valuable for decades.” “Howie was incredibly dedicated and committed.

His enthusiasm and love for athletics were unmatched. Most recently, he was happy to watch Rick Pitino restore his beloved St. John’s to prominence and to watch the UConn Huskies go back to back.”

After graduating from St. John’s, Schwab worked as a writer and consultant for Fox Sports and on “Sports Jeopardy!” before joining ESPN.
