Frank Csorba, Lynchburg University’s Runner Back and Boydton,Virginia Resident Frank Csorba Dies Unexpectedly

Frank Csorba, a renowned student-athlete and college runner, has tragically died. The mother of the Bluestone High School graduate shared the sad news on her Facebook page on Tuesday. “So with a heavy heart, I am writing to let everyone know my eldest, amazing, and talented son, Frank Csorba, passed away today. He was an amazing young man, with so much talent and strength. He overcame so many obstacles in his life. My family is grieving right now so please give us a moment to collect ourselves. Frank— run with no pain and be free,” Jessica Csorba wrote.

Csorba was awarded the River District’s Runner of the Year title during his last year at Bluestone, according to SoVaNOW News. He was also selected for the All-Region 2A first team, leading Bluestone to victory in the Conference 34 Championship.

Additionally, he received recognition with all-state accolades. Csorba encountered numerous injuries during his first year at Lynchburg. Despite this, he managed to participate in three competitions, achieving his highest ranking of 10th place in the ODAC preview with a time of 25:58.2.

His aspirations for the 2020 season were crushed when the COVID-19 pandemic ultimately resulted in the cancellation of all college sports for a certain length of time.

According to the university’s athletics department, 2021 was his most successful season to date. Csorba had a highly successful cross-country season, achieving three top-15 results out of five races, which is considered one of the best performances in the program’s history. He received the ODAC runner-up of the week accolades for finishing in 12th place at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational.

He achieved a resounding victory at Rowan’s Inter-Regional Border Battle, completing the race in an impressive time of 24 minutes and 42.7 seconds. This outstanding performance elevated him to the second position on the program’s all-time list.

Placed second at the ODAC championships, contributing to the Hornets’ overall victory. Despite being injured, Frankk persevered and achieved a 99th-place result at the NCAA championships.

In 2022, Csorba participated in a total of 13 competitions. The last two competitions were the NCAA Division III South Region Cross Country Championships, held on November 12. In the 8K race, Csorba achieved a second-place finish with a time of 25 minutes, 16.3 seconds.

His last race took place in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, during which he became sick with an asthma attack and was unable to complete the race. In the previous week, Csorba, who came in second place, also fell ill and collapsed at the end of the race owing to heat fatigue.
