Hobbton High School in Newton Grove, North Carolina, was the site of a tragic incident on Wednesday, prompting an investigation by the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement responded to a distressing report at the school campus located at 12201 Hobbton Hwy.

According to reports from Wral News, a male individual was discovered deceased inside a vehicle parked on the school’s athletic field. Investigators noted that the male had sustained a gunshot wound to the head, leading them to conclude that the cause of death was likely a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Captain Eric Pope of the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office conveyed that initial assessments indicated the male subject had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities currently withholding the name of the deceased individual. Following standard procedure, the body was removed from the vehicle and transported to the coroner’s office for further examination. The campus, which had been partially closed to the public during the investigation, has since been reopened after responding officers concluded their procedures at the scene.

Local residents soon identified the deceased individual as Logan Langston, a respected figure within the community and a dedicated member of the Hobbton Wildcats Football program. Langston served as the Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach at Hobbton High School, where he was known for his hard work and commitment to his students and athletes. Originally hailing from Newton Grove, NC, Langston was deeply embedded in the fabric of the community.

Tragically, Langston’s passing occurred just one day after what would have been his second wedding anniversary with his wife, MiKayla McLamb. MiKayla, who works as an Occupational Therapist at Kissito Healthcare: Warsaw Nursing & Rehab, studied Elementary Education at NC State University and is a graduate of Hobbton High School herself. The news of her husband’s untimely death has left a profound void in her heart, and the entire Newton Grove community has rallied around her in support during this difficult time.

As the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Logan Langston’s death continues, residents of Newton Grove have come together to offer prayers and support for his grieving family, as well as for the students and staff at Hobbton Middle School and Hobbton High School. The community mourns the loss of a beloved coach and mentor, and awaits further details about the incident that led to this tragic outcome.
