Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Investigate Threat at Ponchatoula High School in Louisiana

At approximately 11:16 a.m., Ponchatoula High School received a call threatening violence. In an abundance of caution, the school administration immediately initiated a lockdown and notified local law enforcement.

After a thorough investigation, law enforcement has determined that the threat was not credible, according to a statement from Tangipahoa Parish School System.

The safety and security of our students and staff are our top priorities, and we will continue to work closely with local authorities to ensure a safe learning environment for all.

We encourage anyone with information about this incident or any potential threats to report them immediately to the authorities.”

“We will not tolerate violence on our campuses, and the safety of our students and employees is our highest priority, Superintendent Melissa Stilley stated.

Following the incident, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office released the following statement: Ponchatoula High School, Just before 11:30 AM today, deputies were alerted by Ponchatoula High School of an anonymous tip claiming someone was on their way to the school with a gun.

As the school went onto immediate lockdown, deputies from across the parish responded and have been on campus since. At this time, the school is safe and the threat has not been deemed credible, however, the school will remain on lockdown until further notice.

Extra deputies will remain on campus for the remainder of the day. Out of precaution, Martha Vinyard School is also on lockdown due to its proximity.
