The Marine Corps community mourns the loss of Sgt. Colin Arslanbas, a dedicated and courageous Marine who tragically passed away in a parachute accident during the 24th MEU’s Composite Unit Training Exercise.

Confirmed by a spokesperson for II MEF in an email to USNI News, the accident occurred on April 18th during nighttime training activities, casting a shadow of sorrow over the Marine Corps community.

Col. Todd Mahar, the commanding officer of the 24th MEU, extended heartfelt condolences to Arslanbas’ family, acknowledging his unwavering dedication, exceptional leadership, and profound impact as a Marine. Originally hailing from Missouri, Arslanbas enlisted in the Marine Corps in March 2020 and demonstrated remarkable dedication and commitment throughout his service.

Having recently been promoted to the rank of sergeant, Arslanbas served with distinction as a Reconnaissance Marine with the Maritime Special Purpose Force at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.

His exemplary service and selfless dedication to duty were reflected in his commendable achievements, including the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.
