Michael W. Wogoman Obituary – A Poulsbo resident lost his life in a car accident in Kitsap County, just south of the Hood Canal Bridge. The collision did not result in the closure of the bridge, but it did require drivers to take one of two detours to reach their destination. Katherine Weatherwax, the spokesperson for the Washington State Patrol, provided this information.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Michael W. Wogoman, 62, was driving a 2016 Honda Fit hatchback northbound on state Highway 3. At the same time, Xisto Ramirez Carillo, 42, whose hometown is unknown, was driving a Ford pickup truck southbound on Highway 3 at milepost 60, approximately two-tenths of a mile south of the bridge. These details were mentioned in the State Patrol’s incident memo.
According to troopers, Wogoman attempted to pass another vehicle on a blind corner and collided head-on with Carillo’s Ford in the southbound lane.
After the collision, Wogoman’s Honda came to a stop on the northbound shoulder, while Carillo’s Ford came to rest on the southbound shoulder. Tragically, Wogoman was pronounced dead at the scene, as stated in the memo. It was noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt.
Another individual, Jose Villanueva, 29, whose hometown is unknown, sustained injuries and was transported to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale. The State Patrol confirmed that Villanueva was wearing a seatbelt.
Mario P. Ramirez, 28, from Bremerton, was a passenger in Wogoman’s Honda. Fortunately, he was unharmed and had been wearing a seatbelt, according to the incident memo.
The cause of the collision, as indicated in the memo, was determined to be unsafe passing. Both lanes of Highway 3 remained closed for several hours due to the accident.
