Suspect who shot and killed 3 US Marshals in Charlotte identified as 16-year-old boy

The city of Charlotte, North Carolina, was rocked by tragedy on Monday when three law enforcement officers serving on a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force lost their lives in the line of duty. The devastating incident unfolded in east Charlotte, where officers were met with “active gunfire” from a suspect within a residence.

In a shocking turn of events, the individual responsible for the fatal shooting has been identified as a 16-year-old boy. Reports indicate that a U.S. Marshal was attempting to serve a warrant when the teenager opened fire, unleashing a barrage of bullets that claimed the lives of three officers.

The chaos escalated as the teenager and his friend engaged in a shootout on the plaza, resulting in the tragic injury of a young girl caught in the crossfire. Despite the arrival of law enforcement on the scene, the exchange of gunfire persisted, leading to further injuries among responding officers.

In total, eight law enforcement officers were shot during the ordeal, including four Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers who sustained injuries in the line of duty. The officers, who bravely served as part of a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, were engaged with the suspect inside a residence on Galway Drive. The suspect responsible for the senseless violence also perished on Monday, further adding to the tragedy that unfolded in the quiet neighborhood. As authorities continue to investigate the incident, two persons of interest are being questioned, though their identities have not yet been disclosed to the public.
